About Us

Hey There, Climber—Welcome to My Tricam-Fueled Corner of the World!

How a Jammed Tricam Changed Everything

It all started on a sun-baked granite ledge in Joshua Tree. I was halfway up a route called “Sail Away,” my rack low and confidence lower, when my only tricam got stuck so deep it might’ve become part of the rock’s geology. After 20 minutes of gentle coaxing (and mild panic), I finally wiggled it free—but not before realizing how little I actually understood about this quirky piece of gear. That moment sparked a rabbit hole: Why were tricams so misunderstood? So under-reviewed? So rarely discussed outside gear-nerd circles?

Fast forward through years of travel, crag-hopping, and testing every tricam variation under the sun—from dusty alpine cracks in Norway to sweaty limestone seams in Thailand—and Illuminations Network was born. What began as a general love for adventure travel evolved into an obsession with the gear that keeps us safe between the ground and the summit. And within that world, climbing tricams became my passion project: elegant, reliable, and wildly underrated.

Here’s Why I’m Doing This

I’m here to cut through the noise and help you understand climbing tricams—not just how they work, but why they matter. Whether you’re a weekend warrior building your first rack or a seasoned trad climber fine-tuning your kit, I want you to feel confident, informed, and inspired. No fluff, no marketing jargon—just real insights from real climbs.

What Matters Here

  • Real Talk: I keep it honest—even when it’s awkward. Like when I admitted my favorite “vintage” tricam had zero modern safety ratings… and promptly retired it.
  • You First: Your questions shape this site. After dozens of messages asking, “Which tricam fits thin finger cracks best?” I built our now-popular Fit Guide series.
  • Quality Over Hype: If I haven’t hung my body weight on it (or spent weeks analyzing its engineering), it doesn’t get featured.
  • Curiosity Rules: I’ll test a new alloy tricam prototype in three different rock types just to see how it behaves—so you don’t have to guess.

Let’s Connect
